Concert in November 2011

BRUCE VOGT
Piano Recital celebrating the Bicentennial of Franz Liszt

>>>Programme of Bruce Vogt's Trunch Concert >>>

Bruce Vogt, extraordinary pianist and Professor of Piano and Head of Keyboard Studies at the University of Victoria, Vancouver, Canada, will be performing on this evening. >>>see Bruce Vogt's website>>>

Bruce is widely recognised as one of Canada's most talented performers at the piano and is internationally recognised as one of the finest exponents of the music of Franz Liszt.

The highlight of many of our seasons is when we are fortunate enough to have the extraordinary Canadian pianist, Bruce Vogt, visit – usually on this way to tour Germany or the Far East . You can hear and learn more about Bruce by logging on to www.brucevogt.com. He is Head of one of Canada ’s most prestigious training centres for pianists, the Music Department of the University of Victoria , Vancouver .
He divides his time between teaching and performing and is an internationally acknowledged specialist in interpreting the music of Schumann and Liszt.  For the Liszt bicentennial year he has been asked to make three CDs OF Liszt’s music for the Canadian ‘Studio’ label. He will be sharing some of the music of Franz Liszt with his audience at 7.30 pm on Saturday 26th November in St Botolph’s Church, Trunch. Admission by programme at the door: £10 (£6 concessions). He may also perform some of the music which Liszt himself played on his one visit to Norfolk in 1840, a recital at the Assembly House in Norwich , to add to the sense of occasion.

Reviews of Bruce’s playing include:

The Times London, England:Rare grandeur ... I have never heard [Liszt's] Norma Fantasy played with such consummate largesse ... I was mesmerized by Vogt's sheer control. In Liszt's Dante Sonata the structure of the work was never exposed and the final triumph of the piece rang from the piano with spine-chilling inevitability.

Le Républicain Paris, France :  A virtuoso ... the audience was literally enraptured.

Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung Frankfurt, Germany:Melancholy magic ... Vogt’s concentrated pianistic command is to be respected along with his great empathy for poetic mood; he was able to draw from a great reserve of power without placing this power in the foreground.

Bruce has released two CDs of the music of Liszt for the bicentenary of this great composer. The first CD includes the complete Années de Pèlerinage, Volume II: Italie and selections from the third volume. The second CD includes major works from throughout Liszt's career, including the powerful Réminiscences de Norma and his ecstatic religious visionary work Bénédiction de Dieu dans le Solitude.
